Offshore Ocean Observing Network in Cyprus

Location:

Cyprus

Challenge:

The fast developing energy industry in Cyprus offered a unique market opportunity to extend and modify an existing offshore ocean observing network in order to provide fiber optic network services to the oil and gas companies planning to develop this new region.

Solution:

OSI has recently commissioned the Poseidon network, a purpose built subsea cable system bordering the Cypriot EEZ and enveloping the thirteen offshore oil and gas lease blocks established for development by the Republic of Cyprus. Extending from two shore stations in Cyprus, the Poseidon network forms a 800km fiber optic ring from which operators of deep water assets can connect. OSI has also formed Radius Oceanic Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary, that will market and operate the network for regional oil and gas and ocean observing customers.
