International Telecoms Week 2019 in Review

International Telecoms Week 2019 in Review

Last week, Ocean Specialists (OSI), was well represented at ITW2019 with the attendance of Tom Soja (VP) and Tony Mosley (Director of Business Development), who formed part of the more than 7000 attendees of this key annual telecom conference. Running from the 22nd to the 25th of June, this was the first year that the conference was held in Atlanta, GA.

With its usual speed-dating atmosphere, ITW provided an opportunity to meet with many contacts in the industry working on new subsea projects, which continue to show strong growth worldwide.  Many new projects continue to be announced and many others are under development by both telecommunication companies and internet content providers or OTTs (Over The Top players).

The demand for bandwidth continues to expand as more subscribers are added to the network and engage in the content. As enterprises accelerate machine-to-machine activities in addition to the growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), the need for faster broadband, and consequently new subsea cable systems, becomes a global necessity.

Of particular note was an interesting discussion on the 4th Industrial Revolution which many in the industry believe we are in the throes of today. The 4th Industrial Revolution will be powered by telecommunications infrastructure strengthening developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, robotics, biotechnology, and quantum computing to name a few.

OSI would like to thank the ITW organizers and Capacity Media for another great conference and we look forward to attending ITW 2020 next year.
